ABSTRACT
This
study investigates the net asset value (NAV) of 5 categories of unit trust
funds i.e. income, growth, balanced, Islamic and bond funds for the period 2000
to 2005. It is then compared to the Composite Index of the Malaysian
Stock Exchange. The findings show that the entire unit trusts NAV trends
follow the economic cycle except for the bond unit trusts. There is also
no difference in NAV growth between the income, balanced, growth and Islamic
funds. However, bond NAV growth shows not only a significant difference with
the other funds but is also able to maintain a positive growth in various
market cycles.
